After a longer while we finally post something in English again. Before getting started, I need to tell you that Diane, whose appartment we've been occupying for three weeks now, has found an option on her computer to translate our German posts. I've seen these online translations before and they used to be fun to read, but had nothing to do with the original script. Well, technology apparently developed and the translation was quite accurate. So if you're interested in reading our German posts as well, go ahead and do so, even though I'm aware that the writing might sound a little awkward at times.
We've been on our journey for about three weeks now and so far the people we've met in California have treated us in a way of hospitality we couldn't have expected at all. Starting in Amsterdam not everything worked out as well as we would have hoped during the first couple of days. The loss of my wallet comes to mind, it was quite a hassle to get all the documents needed, i.e. driver's license, credit card and so on. When we arrived in Los Angeles we met Paul who I had met several years ago. The last time we only spent a couple of hours together which didn't keep him from offering us to stay in his appartment in L.A. for some nights. Paul was our key to explore a city so huge that everybody visiting definetely needs some sort of guidance to find the good spots and the right people to hang out with. As for now it appears that receiving Paul's invitation to stay with him for some days was the real start of our trip. We had a tremendous time with him playing soccer (as you could see on our pictures, by the way I pulled my muscle at that game and since then am not able to perform any kind of sports, even if I wanted to) and doing all kinds of activites which we enjoyed. Just for hanging out and talking it was worth the time being there since he's a very interesting guy to talk to. We might even see him again before going to Arizona (well, Paul, if you read this, I hope it doesn't sound like a threat to you) where we'll meet other people I met in high school in Kansas when I was there about... damn it... 12 years ago! Well, now I was interrupted since Diane and Spence came home, so there's some hours between the last sentence and this one, I hope the cut isn't too obvious, it's in the middle of the night now, but I'll say another few words regarding our trip so far. After being in Los Angeles we took a rental car to go up north. The drive up there is very scenic, reminded me a bit of Ireland to be honest, sheer coasts, different shades of green, hills on all sides, really nice. The ride up the coast took us the whole day, but it was definetely worth it as opposed to taking the other, the quicker ruote down the Highway 5 which is a more direct way of getting there, but apparently a lot more boring, too. That's the way we'll go down again, but for now we shouldn't care about it. Well, what should I say, my writing got postponed again due to some late night talks with our new (and old) friends, and it really gets late now. I know there wasn't much of substantial information in this post, still hope you enjoyed reading through it.
All the Best and see you later!!
Lars
P.s.: I didn't bother to include any additional pictures on this one. Since pictures are universal in language, please have a look at the ones Maiken has published on her post, hope you enjoy it!!
